Sumea is a European game studio, and currently employs talented people from many different countries including Russia, Poland, Turkey, Germany, the UK and, of course, Finland. Combined with the very active local game developer scene, we're happy to note that Helsinki is rapidly becoming a hotspot for European game development.
Sumea's currently available jobs are published on the Digital Chocolate site. Unless otherwise noted, all our career opportunities require relocation to Helsinki, Finland.

At Sumea, making games is professional and fun! Want to know more? Let's take a brief tour of the professional disciplines...
Project Management
When we draw up a project plan, quality and timelines are always high on our priority list. We tend to put a lot of effort into planning because it really pays off in the form of a fluid production cycle where the team can focus on making the best possible game without unnecessary distractions.
“To me, people always come first. My priority is to talk to people; to the team, sales, marketing, QA, post-production, etc. I always let people create their own task lists and task estimates, with the help of their line managers and leads. I then use these as the foundation on which the project plan is built upon. The game industry is full of stories of cancelled projects, slipping milestones and deathmarch crunches. At Sumea, we have none of that. It's like being part of a group of friends, with regular poker and board game nites and other activities. As a producer, I feel I am part of the team and can maintain great friendships with team members outside the office as well. Even after a couple of tough milestones. :)” Producer
Game Design
In game design, we always go the extra mile and make the whole experience, especially playability, as smooth as possible. Our accumulated knowledge about handset restrictions as well as our focus on building great in-house design tools are key to making this possible. Compared to other platforms, mobile game designers enjoy a high degree of creative freedom. This is especially true at Sumea because our focus is on creating new mobile game franchises, characters and universes.
“Why do I like to work at Sumea? I think that designing best-selling games for a global market is an amazing possibility and an exciting challenge. Sumea is part of a successful game publisher it's great to make games that will be published for sure. The platform and the business as a whole are evolving quickly and that makes my job very dynamic. On a daily basis, it's just fun to work at Sumea! Working conditions are great, and the studio has a very capable management. I have been working in the creative industry for more than 15 years and Sumea is by far the best place I've ever worked at.” Senior Game Designer
Visual Arts
Sumea is famous for creating classy visual experiences, even though the screens are very small and the amount of art resources in each game is technically extremely limited. We feel it's a fun design challenge and all of our games prove that with our professional work methods, technology isn't a restriction to true creative freedom.
“Sumea is a great combination of talented people and innovative atmosphere. I'm especially enthusiastic about the influence I have on my own work and all the cool stuff we are creating! Instead of trying to recycle tired old ideas, we are always developing new ones and that is so fun.” Senior Artist
Programming
Because we are specialized in over-the-air downloadable games, our job is to push the extremely restricted platform capabilities to the limit. The fine arts of 2-D/3-D graphics and playability programming are especially important for us. We also put a lot of conscious effort into our state of the art in-house tools and honestly believe we have the industry's best tool set for making downloadable mobile games. Server-side game programming is also of interest to us. Currently we do most of our work on J2ME and J2SE but are by no means restricted to these.
“Before I started to work for Sumea, I didn't expect the work flows to be so efficiently laid out. Sumea surprisingly manages to coordinate and motivate many people with different backgrounds. The teams are enthusiastic and everybody is invited to provide ideas and concepts into the daily work. I like the fact that the studio pays so much attention to the employees' individual talents and tries to always match people with projects they have a talent and interest for.” Tools Programmer from Germany, 4th working day
